Google to Initiate Cloud Computing Project in Taiwan
February 01, 2008
On January 29, Google's Taiwan Engineering Research Center announced a cooperation agreement signed with Taiwan's National Taiwan University and National Chiao Tung University. Under the agreement, the three parties will join hands on Google's first cloud computing project outside of the United States.

Google stated that the project will allow all software programs and data to be stored in a virtual world, aiming to overcome the limitations of PCs, Taiwan's United Daily News reported. The cooperation is expected to include other Taiwanese universities in later phases.

Google, however, declined to comment on a recent report stating that the company plans to set up its first data center outside of the United Stated in Taiwan. Taiwan's government has reportedly offered Google two industrial parks for review: Lize Industrial Park of Ilan County and Changhua Coastal Industrial Park, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News. Official confirmations from Taiwan's government were unavailable, either.
